Ping data controlling variable resistance

Hi all,

I want to use the data from an ultrasonic to control variable resistance on a circuit. I'm testing for an a/v installation, whereby a series of motion sensors control audio video output. This will likely be done in MaxMSP, but I wanted to try some circuit bent toys, in the meantime.

I've got a potentiometer on the circuit, but I would like to control the resistance remotely from the Arduino, using a ping sensor. The obvious solution would be motorised pots, but, unless I can salvage some of these from somewhere, they're pretty expensive for what I want to do. Just wondered if anyone has an alternative suggestion.

Thanks,

B.

Do you need a variable resistance or a potentiometer?
If the latter, then there are digital pots.

Hi AWOL,

Thank you. Yep, that'll do nicely; didn't realise there was such a thing, or that they were so cheap.

Also, thought that a variable resistor was another name for a potentiometer, until I read your reply and did a little research:)
