PIR sensor

Hi,

does anyone would know if a PIR sensor would be fast and acurate enough to be triggered by a dog passing throug a sensor line
@full speed (aprox. 20miles/hour) and if the sensing area could be narrowed to 2inch by tapeing of a par of the lens?
They only have to detect a dog passing by at the maximum range of 4 foot

I ask this because they are much cheaper then the now used reflective photocells, but I don't know if they would be as acurate as the photocells (and fast enough)

Grtz,
Yves

Pretty much a given they'd be slower. Nothing to back that up with, just my gut feel.

Chihuahuas or Great Danes? That matters, too.

Hi,

mostly border collie’s and other dog of that height

once in a while a jack russel terrier, but those don’t run 20 MPH of course
