Is there a playground somewhere where you can try out everything that markdown offers and that might (not) work in the forum instance?
Background is that I possibly want to offer a longer tutorial, in which tables and code snippets, etc. are in it, but which also need to be visually prettified.
My last attempts with multiple format options in one post were exhausting and time-consuming to edit. :-((
My recommendation is to send yourself a direct forum message. Markup in messages is rendered exactly the same as in forum posts.
If you want to do offline development, you can use VS Code. It has a pretty good preview feature for Markdown. However, there are some small differences in the forum's markup rendering compared to VS Code so in certain cases you would find a difference in the forum post's rendering compared to the preview.
GitHub also has some small differences in rendering Markdown files.
The rendering of markup in GitHub issues is actually closer to the forum. So alternatively you could create a "sandbox" repository, but open an issue in the repository instead of adding a .md document.
Somehow there are so many scripts running in the background that I can't wait for them to freeze completely while I'm writing, and if they do, then only half of them.
Can someone look in the source code, where I have the error? Editing doesn't work anymore, either my netbook crashes or the preview doesn't fit to the editor window.
I don't have such problems anywhere else.
With every update the handling becomes more difficult. Maybe just think back to basic features.
Many of us asked for some of the old forum features to be made available in Discourse.
Unfortunately those suggestions seem to fallen on deaf ears.
It is my understanding that those features we asked for ARE AVAILABLE on / for discourse.
Expecting noobs and even many others to learn "markup" has never been a practical solution.
The forum is about "EASE OF USE" not learning something that is nothing to do with Arduino.
I support bringing back some of the previous features we were used to that helped us compose better responses.
Already available to Arduino if they want to use them.
There are others too that allow greater control of what we post.
All it would take is the will of ADMIN to agree to it.
But at least one admin thinks we all need to learn markdown and seemingly has no interest in making life easy for people.
I fought this battle a long time ago so good luck with it.
You do however have my support.
Its not like they cannot test it in the sandbox test area !
Many new people do not know what markdown is let alone that they may have to go somewhere else to test post a reply where they may already have drop downs, and then come back here with it.
Sounds like more work that it is worth for a lot of people.
