Please Help! Christmas present not working very sad :(

Hi, Please could someone help. I have had a Arduino/Genuino Mega or Mega 2560 for christmas and I have still not got it up and running due to the same error message keeps coming up.

I am trying to upload the basic Blink code in Arduino IDE but keep getting same error message.
I have my board manager set up to Arduino/Genuino Mega or Mega 2560
I have the correct port selected
I have also tried a new USB cable but still no joy???
I am running Linux Ubuntu 17.10

I have attached a copy of the error message so hopefully some out there can help.

I have spent hours trying to search the internet and the closes i came to a similar problem was regarding the upload protocol=wiring checked this still no joy???

Don't post screenshots of text! That is very unhelpful. When you encounter an error you'll see a button on the right side of the orange bar "Copy error messages". Click that button. Paste the error in a message here USING CODE TAGS (</> button on the toolbar). It is almost never appropriate to post screenshots but in some cases it is helpful to post images. You should attach and embed the image following these instructions:
