Please help, I cant upload to Arduino Nano!!!!!

Hey I'm fairly new to Ardiuno and I'm having trouble uploading to my arduino nano. every time i upload i get the error message

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Please, I've tried everything I know with no luck. Does anyone know what is wrong?
I am connected to arduino nano with the right port, using the online editor.
