Please help...Invalid Device Signature with ATtiny85

I need help with just programming a single avr microcontroller ATtiny85. But it keep giving me this error when I simply try to burn a bootloader. It has been many hours trying and failing to get this to work and I am tempted to just take hammer to it. All the connections are correct and none of connections are crossing over or broken or anything.

I am using an Arduino MKR 1300 WAN as the programmer and the ATTinyCore library. Also, the microcontroller was new and was purchased today. Please if you can help, I would appreciate it.

That indicates either a wiring problem, or that you previously tries to 'burn bootloader' on that chip with external crystal selected as clock source but no crystal is present

Hello there. I do not have a crystal in possession to previously set it like that. However, I will try to get
a crystal as I have checked my wiring rather extensively. However, why would it be set with crystal initially if it was brand new?

It would not be. A new virgin attiny is set to use internal oscillator at 1MHz.

So it sounds like it in fact is a wiring error? Check with multimeter for continuity to each pin. Make sure you're using the SPI pins on the MKR, which will have different numbers than the SPI pins on Uno/etc.

There may also be some specific caveats for the MKR that I'm not aware of. I've only ever worked with the AVR arduinos. If you have an Uno/Nano/ProMini/Leonardo/Micro - those might work better.

Also, how are you powering the ATTiny? And do you have a 100nF decoupling capacitor?
