An else statement needs to follow in if statement. Yours does not.

All code must be in a function. Yours is not.

Once you have got the code to compile will it work anyway ?

The digital pins default to being inputs if not set as outputs using pinMode(), so what will the digitalWrite() commands in your code do ?

Incidentally, I was amused by the variable names and the comments in these lines

int analogPin2 = 2;     // potentiometer wiper (middle terminal) connected to analog pin 4

It may be deliberate, but you should note that your liberal use of delays of half a second will make the code seem very unresponsive to changes of potentiometer values.
