i will have the arduino for PPC! test http://files.arduino.cc/downloads/arduino-0009-mac-ppc.zip

HAVE YOU A FTP-Server?

You do realize that your http path will not resolve for FTP?
That is, try pinging www.google.com ... that works and resolves to 74.125.134.99 in my region. However http://files.arduino.cc/downloads/arduino-0009-mac-ppc.zip would never resolve for FTP (The global DNS address servers do not work that way...)
Ping request could not find host files.arduino.cc

FTP commonly uses TCP ports 20/21 on a route address.
HTTP commonly uses TCP ports 80/8080 or a variety of others in private networks.

Even on the HTTP side, http://files.arduino.cc/downloads/arduino-0009-mac-ppc.zip does not resolve:
Oops! Google Chrome could not find files.arduino.cc

For me this link just works.

BTW: Ping does check an IP address (by sending ICMP packet) and not a specific port, and DNS resolution is also on an IP/host basis and does not belong to the used protocol/port.
