I am looking to do some home automation and build my own boards to keep the price down I found this instructable to make an arduino with a built in ethernet and I am looking to have power over ethernet to cut down on cables but I seem to come up short on finding info on how to intergrate poe can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'm assuming your using the Arduino-Ethernet with optional POE module on it ?, http://arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardEthernet The question you prob. have is how to add power to your cat5 cable ?.
You can upgrade your current router/switch to a model with POE capability. http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/?categoryid=209
You can add an POE injector for example: http://www.dlink.com/us/en/business-solutions/switching/network-and-switch-accessories/poe-injectors-and-splitters/dpe-101gi-poe-gigabit-injector
sorry i forgot to post a link to what I was talking about. this is the instructable i am talking about http://www.instructables.com/id/A-credit-card-sized-Ethernet-Arduino-compatable-co/ and no it not the shield its going to be an all in one board to cut down on the wires and keep it as small as possible to save on space and reduce the chances of it not fitting where I wanna put it
The link I referred to the arduino is also an all-in-one board, it even contains an footprint for an POE module. no fuss with wires. The board you refer to does not have an option for an POE module.
If the standards arduino board size is to large for you, you could also go for an arduino Nano/micro with one of those smaller ENC28J60 bases ethernet modules. Still does not solve the problem with POE . you could use a separate POE module like http://dlnmh9ip6v2uc.cloudfront.net/datasheets/Dev/Arduino/Boards/Ag9120S.pdf For schematics, check the schematics for the Arduino-Ethernet and the datasheet of the POE module
