Portable accelerometer with Logger

Hi All,

I was curious if anyone could tell me how feasible it is for someone who has never used Arduino to build a portable accelerometer that would report to a logger over 24 hours. I am looking to log the movements of a chair. I can dedicate a good chunk of time but would like to have a working model in 3 - 4 weeks . Can anyone let me know how realistic that is and where and what parts i would need to get me started.

Thanks!

Very feasible. But how experienced are you? Software (writing an Arduino program), electronics (connecting up the accelerometer - the logger is just an SD shield), mechanics (putting it a box with battery and so on)? If I had the parts it would take me about two evenings. Double if it has to be very pretty.

Somewhere I recently saw someone had made a simple system Arduino+SD+sensor input plus some software for simple-yet-powerfull datalogger. So get that (google a little more) and adjust it to your needs.

Hi Msqaure,

I have no software skills at all. I have built electronics but I'm sure I can wade myself into it. I have plenty of experience on the mechanics side of things. Thanks for your response, I will look for the google page. Please post it if you stumble across it.

Thanks!
