I am running Linux 19.3 Tricia
Arduino 2:1.0.5 that I downloaded yesterday
I am new to Linux and Arduino
When I plug the Arduino Uno R3 to USB port Linux sees the Arduino but Arduino IDE does not see any com port
The error message is “serial pot Com1 not found. Did you select the right one from the Tools>Serial Port menu?”
I have tried every suggestion I could find but nothing works
As I said I am new to Linux so please keep it as simple as possible if you can
You are using an incredibly outdated version of the Arduino IDE. This is caused by installing the Arduino IDE via a command like "apt install arduino". Please always download the official version of the Arduino IDE from the downloads page:
I'm not sure that is the cause of your problem, but it's certainly worth updating the IDE. After that, if you're still having the same problem with Arduino IDE 1.8.12, let us know and we'll see if we can help out.
I downloaded the Arduino IDE from this website day before yesterday
But you are correct that I did install by the command line
Now I will delete the current install and try again
I deleted Arduino IDE and reinstalled
Current version 1.8.12
But my Tools>Ports is still ghosted
Can ayone help?

I'm no longer a Linux user. What happens when you connect the board to the PC? Any info from the command line tools dmesg and lsusb?
Lsusb reports us 002 device 004: id 2341:0043 Arduino SA Uno r3 (cdc acm)
Dmesg give a full screen of information that I cant make sense of
I tried the Uno on my Windows 10 pc with no problems
But I’m trying to learn Linux at least on a basic level
