Positioning system 1x0.5m size rectange

Hey guys, I’m currenlty working on some projects that requires positional tracking of multiple (4 points) in 2d space. I have read about IR position tracking and ultra wide band protocols, but those are quite an overkill, because those are used for full room tracking, what I need is grid based tracking system that is devided in squares and all points would have unique ID’s. Btw this board would be 1x0.5m big, any suggestion how I could achieve this thing, maybe coils under thise points? (I’m planning to use wireles power transfer, so coils will be itegrated, or one big coil)

Please let me know what you think.

You can track objects, but asking to track points is ambitious, a point is abstract.

So what objects are you trying to track? You need to tell them apart or not?

Pixy?

I do need to tell small objects apart, and as I stated it would be great to get unique id of it. Objects will be figurines of a table top game, so not a big figurine. Perfect solution would be to have figurine be like a transmitor of low power, (like an LED that blinks and transfers data that way and uses low power that could be obtained by wireless coils) i only need to transfer id of it and the position might be calculated by triangulation?

I looked into ps vamera and wii camera, but still learning how it works.
