Pot and motor forward,release,backward.

Hello all. Arduino its very fun, i already create pan/tilt webcam (just 2pot and 2 servo).
But now i have question:
How code need for control dc motor from potentiometer?left side-reverse, center-release, right- forward.
i create simple code for reverse and backward,but I can not make it to the center potentiometer - release.
I have arduino uno and this motor shield

Positions of the pot are read as numbers. Decide what range of numbers you want to use for each of the three states. Perhaps you want 0 to 500 to be Forward, 500 to 524 to be Release, and 425 to 1023 to be reverse.
