pot wiring

Is there an accepted standard for pot wiring?

Is it:
pin1 5v
pin2 wiper
pin3 GND

or:
pin1 GND
pin2 wiper
pin3 5v

Any reasons?

The only reason that I can think of to care is which way the shaft turns to increase or decrease output. I
mean like clockwise for more.

Right, it has to do with whether you want the pot turned "all the way right" (i.e., clockwise) to be 5V or 0V.

Pat.

That can be changed in software easily enough. I'm thinking that you want the lowest amount of voltage to the wiper when pot is all the way down. Seems most logical that way around, so pin 1 to gnd.

Yep, that's the way most people do it, for that very reason.
