Potentiometer Readings Off

I press the button the readings from the Potentiometer are +14 when it is suppose to be 0 and -6 ish when the max reading is suppose to be 255.

Can you explain this please?
There is nothing to suggest negative numbers in your code.

int brightness = map(analogValue, 0, 1023, 0, 255);

Did you mean

int brightness = analogValue / 4;

?
