Power arduino from Easydriver

Apologies if this is a stupid question but I haven't been able to find a conclusive answer. From a search one person has done it and it seemed to work but not sure if there are any pitfalls to be aware of.

Currently the easydriver is powered by a 12v 1500ma dc wall plug (the stepper is 12v and 330ma) and the arduino via usb. I'd like to just use one source if possible

Can I safely use the 5v out on the easydriver to power the arduino through its 5v pin? The arduino itself is powering a couple of opto-isolaters and a small serial screen.

Cheers

If that's a well regulated 5V out (my guess is that it is) then that should be safe.

Yes the sparkFun schematic has a note that the easydriver only consumes about 70ma from the voltage regulator and the rest is avalible to the user, so more then enough to power a basic arduino board.

Thanks guys - indeed, it is working fine
