hello everyone .
I have a small problem . I am creating my first arduino project and I am trying to power it otherwise , so i built a power supply for it supplying 11.5 v 1a to my arduino vin port . it starts up and work for about 30 seconds then it starts malfunctioning , my alarms sounds different , my readings are off , and my lcd are sometimes jumbled .
im just wondering if anyone had the same or similar issues . thanks in advance .
How much junk are you powering? The onboard regulator is probably overheating. Check it carefully with your finger.
not much at all just a lcd ,a buzzer , a motor and gas sensor , it worked perfectly powered by may laptop. so i wasnt even thinking it was the load . i will disconnect all the components and see whats us the outcome .. thanks for replying

Your laptop connection supplies 5V directly to the board via the USB connection. The regulator isn't used at all. When you plug into the barrel jack, you are supplying everything on the board through a fairly small regulator. In fact, 9V would be a better choice because the regulator will heat up less.
If you have a multimeter, you can measure the 5V to see what the actual voltage is under load. If it droops, you know what your problem is. But as I say, you can feel the heat on the board.

hey aarg my 5v ,actually is supplying 4.6v both when connected to my laptop , and the power supply . also my board isnt heating up at all. the arduino uno specs suggested up to 12v , and im supplying just over 11v . i m not using the barrel jack im using th vin
hey aarg , thanks for the reply i actually solved my problem , it seemed to have been load related ,so by not using the arduino 5v supply for all my power needs it actually stopped malfunctioning ,

Just those, eh?
The LCD is OK, there is no way you should ever attempt to power the others from the Arduino.

Hah!! My first arduino project , so I will know from now on.
