Power consumption for Arduino Uno + WIFI shield

Good day all,

I would like to ask how one would go about measuring power consumed during a powered run of a project that utilizes Arduino Uno and an Arduino WiFi shield stacked above. Do i just connect an ammeter in series with Power supply and Vcc in of the arduino? any help here would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

You would generally connect a meter between the + side of the power supply and the Arduino's power input. This is easy if you are using the Vin pin to power the arduino. If you are using a wall-wart transformer and the power jack or the USB cable for power you will have a harder time. For the USB cable you can get a USB Extension cable and cut it open to tap into the red (Power +) wire. For the power jack you can either cut into the power supply wire or make a short power jack extension cable.
