Power esp8266 and led strip with a single source

nicoskaralis:
sidequestion: if the original power source is 12V 1A, how does it light up so bright? Shouldn't it be at half-bright?

The power supply will be able to supply more than the rated 1A, maybe even a lot more. The consequences normally include a dropped output voltage (which for LEDs may not even make big difference as they want current) and an overheating power supply

Nevertheless it's a Very Bad Idea to use a power supply outside of its specs this way for any extended period of time. Especially one (like yours) that seems to be missing a proper over current protection. You were drawing something like 4-5A which should have caused it to simply shut off or blow a fuse.
