Power Issues (Arduino + USB Host Shield)

Hi,

I successfully wired an Ardunio Micro (and Nano) up to a USB Host Shield mini (can be found at circuits@home).
Everything works well when running the sketch when connected to USB (using a USB3.0 port on my computer)
But if I use a 12v powersupply on VIN pin or a USB wall charger connected to the USB port the Arduino does not start.

Do I have to "clean" the power source?

Current setup :
Arduino <-> USB host shield (directly connected)
Pin D9 - INT
Pin D10 - SS
Pin D11 - MOSI
Pin D12 - MISO
Pin D13 - SCK
Pin 3v3 - RESET
Pin 3v3 - 3.3v
Pin GND - GND

Does anyone has an idea what could be wrong?
Or what I could try to do?
Shall I try to use a voltage regulator infront of VIN ?

thanks and regards,
Tobi

Depends on how much current you are drawing.

If your project is drawing close to 500mA then 12V in is probably too high for Vin and the on-board regulator is shutting down.
