Power problem, or something else... (newbie)

Im trully sorry, its a stupid question.

Ive just mounted my Arduino S3v3r (severino), right? And when i power it up, the power jacket heats a lot and make a burning sound. The power led doesnt light up as well.

Anyone can help me? thats just to wierd, everything is builted right, i suppose...

everything is builted right, i suppose..

Well no actually. If it's doing this then you have a short circuit somewhere. Probably your power supply has current limiting on it and might be preventing something else from burning out. But something else appart from the power jack will be getting hot, have a good feel around the circuit.

actually, i figured out that is the diode next to the Vcc of the power jack that is heating. But still i dont know what it means...

reversed diode ?

edit:

doesn't make sense... unless the diode is seriously broken. if reversed there shouldn't be any significant current going through it at 5V. if it is getting hot and you don't get the power led lit, something is just drawing way too much current before it even gets to the led ( unless that one is reversed  ). I'd check if the voltage regulator gets hot as well, look for shorts... the usual.

If you can't find anything, maybe the voltage regulator itself is bad. Maybe you could desolder it and power the board with a 5V power supply with current limiting option for testing.

anode on the Vcc.
But i could try the other way...
