Power Supply for Arduino

I'm working on a project that is to run in a car. I read the post (http://www.arduino.cc/en/Reference/Board) which specifies the Arduino (I'm using an Uno R3):

External Power Supply In (9-12VDC) - X1 (pink)

Does anyone know if this will allow me to plug the Arduino straight into the 12v Cigarette Lighter Socket - or will I need some sort of "protection" adding in line before the Arduino?

You will need protection. The 12V supply in a car can be nasty.

I thought so - thank you!

I've found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10A-Noise-Suppressor-Filter-Box-Car-CD-Radio-Eliminate-Hum-Reduction-Device-/330440858161?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item4cefcf5a31

Would this work? It's a UK distributor - which is better for me.

Yep.

Thank you for your help! I've ordered it. :)
