Power Supply Unit 12Vdc , 840mA into Vin

Hi Guys,

Just wondering would there be any issues using a Power Supply Unit 12Vdc , 840mA into Vin. I tried and the loop doesn't seem to work the same as if I'm powering from the USB 5V.

Any help is much appreciated.

How much current is your set up taking from the 5V pin?

^ that, and which Arduino are we talking about.

The 5volt regulator of a Nano might already overheat with 12volt on V-in, witout powering anything else.
An UNO/Mega might be able to deliver an extra 100-150mA at that voltage.
The DC socked being the preferred input.
Anything more than that, and the regulator will overheat/shut down.
The Arduino will reboot (if you're lucky).
