Powering 7 stepper motors + other things from Arduino

Hey everyone,

I am looking for a general guidance on the types of shields I should use when I want to power multiple stepper motors + other things like fans and suction cups.

In other words, almost all driver stepper motor shields for Arduino take up all the pins, leaving no free pins for me to connect other things that aren't stepper motors.

Are things like this done by multiple Arduinos?

You don't need to use a shield. A modern stepper motor driver like this one requires only two Arduino pins (STEP and DIR).

Used together with the ENABLE input, those pins can even be shared with other drivers.

By the way, you should NEVER power a motor or servo from the Arduino. Use a separate power supply and connect the grounds.

Ahh great idea. Thanks!
