Powering an arduino nano with an external battery

In order to make my project portable , I have to power my arduino nano with an external battery. The USB serial port provides us with 5 Volts, but I can't find a 5V battery in the market. What I have is a 6V battery. Will this do? ANd how should I connect it?

Vin will take 6+ V or so, check the datasheet for the Nano

Just wire your 6 volt battery to the VIN and ground pins of the NANO board.

Vin voltage range for the NANO is:

Input Voltage (recommended) 7-12 V
Input Voltage (limits) 6-20 V
