Powering Arduino and dc motor with mains?

I am trying to build a unit that will house an arduino that will control a dc motor to open the lid of the unit.
My problem is that the unit must be plugged into the mains and I have no idea where to start for powering the arduino and motor safely using the mains.
Mains power supply : 110/240V

Anyone shed some light on what I may need? I've been told by a friend to use a quick fuse and a traco ac to dc adaptor but I still don't understand.

What motor and motor-driver board?

Could be as simple as a couple of wall warts, but we'd need more information like MarkT asked for.
