Powering arduino question

I am building a shield with it's own power supply. Can I power the Arduino through the Vin pin and not have to use the power jack or the usb jack?

Thanks Jman

Yes you can as long as the voltage is around 7.5vdc to say 12vdc. The Vin pin wires to the on-board +5vdc regulator on the Arduino board.

Great, thanks for the reply!

Hi,

I set up my shield with it's own power. Is there anything I need to do besides hook up the voltage to use the Vin pin? Any different programming or jumpers? I have an Arduino Duemilanove.

Thanks, Jeremy

Nothing else is required, if you wire anything from 7.5vdc to 12vdc to the Vin pin then the Arduino's auto-voltage switch will use that voltage to power the on-board +5vdc regulator which powers the Arduino board.
