Hello. I have 4 arduino nano v3 that I want to power each up with 12v. I have been looking for a way to have 1 power supply that have 4 or more usb ports where I can plug in cables from usb to usb mini. This is the problem. I cant find a 4 port 12v output Hub or something. What do U people do?
12V on USB of a Nano is a certain way to kill it.
All 4 of them.
I use 5vdc USB "chargers" for small projects.
I use 5vdc or 12vdc "laptop" (switching) power supplies for larger projects and use DC-DC converters (12vdc - 5vdc) where needed.
This is what I started with:
After this I built a small power supply with several jacks in. I used this to power it:
Then placed it in a nice box and used an old Laptop Power supply, 19V think. It works very well and has saved a few Arduinos over the years. I now have three of them.
I had about 25 cables made with mail to mail termination.
The Nano can handle 7V to12V (actually 6 to 20V) on the VIN pin so as long as your 12V PSU was powerful enough you could hook up all 4 NANOs to it, BUT I would be much more inclined to use a USB hub that was capable of at least 800mA (4 NANOs x 200mA per NANO). That should be easy to find.
BTW, your mention of USB and 12V is confusing. USB is 5.1V. The NANO can also be powered via the VIN pin using a PSU of 6V to 20V.
Thank you for your response.
One more question then. If a USB cable operates at 5.1 v then it would not be enough to power a nano that requires 7v?
Or is it enough to power it with 5v through the usb cable?
Thanks

Mr new beginner
7V to 9V is required if you power a Classic Nano through the Vin pin. 5V through the USB connnector.
The cable has specs, I don't know off the top of my head if it will handle 7V but I would assume so.
USB IS defined as 5.1V.
Most people just use the USB to power the NANO.
