I can't agree more. My wife thought I was crazy when I stocked up our basement cabinets with dry food, canned goods, cans of propane gas for a portable heater, 24 gallons of water, etc. Recommendations are for three days; judging by recent disaster aftermath responses, a week minimum confirms my belief.

More important though is that Governments should protect their citizens against real hazards that have a high risk of happening e.g. fatal flu pandemic - but they don't do it.
I can't complain about the CDC (US). The Ebola crisis in 2014 worried me; which is the exact reason I stocked up on food, water, etc. The CDC had its hiccups but I give them an A+ for their crisis management.
