I'm trying to write a function that prints a string to the lcd screen but without using the lcd library, and I'm not sure how to do it. I thought about using a character array, but I'm not sure how to send the 8 bit characters over a 4 bit bus. Any help is greatly appreciated it. Thanks!

Why don't you take look and see how the library does it?
Or look at the data sheet of an LCD.
