Pro Micros from aliexpress not working

Hey, I bought 4x usb-c pro micro boards from aliexpress, but I can't get them working.

When I plug them in to my laptop I get no windows sound, and the led on the boards doesn't light up. I've tested my Adafruit QT-PY with the same cable, and the same usb-c port on my laptop, and it works fine.

I've followed this guide and used my Uno as an ISP to try and burn the Leonardo bootloader on the pro micro. When the two are connected with jumper wires, the led on the pro micro turns on, but when I burn the bootloader and try to connect the pro micro separately again, it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

If even power led is not turns on when you plug the board to usb - may be just a USB connector is faulty?

On all 4 boards? Should be unlikely

Do the power leds on ALL boards not light up while connecting the USB? - id so, the boards are definitely faulty, perhaps error in PCB design?

Yeah, on all boards. I guess I'll just contact the seller. I did make sure to buy the ones that have a lot of sales and positive reviews, so idk.

What vendor did you purchase from, Aliexpress is a market place where multiple vendors sell the same or similar items. Contact them for a refund as they did not work.

Don't use a usb-c port on the laptop. Try a usb-a port with an a to c cable.

I'll need to buy one first  but why would there be a difference though? the same setup worked with other boards

There were complaints about issues with that a couple years ago. It's always worth a try.

I'll report back when I do, thanks for the suggestion

works fine with USB A to USB C

That's awesome! I remembered someone else having similar issues. Glad you don't have a pile of dead boards.
