I have read a few posts saying that I can attach 3 AA batteries to the VCC input of this 3.3volt pro mini. Is this ok? will I risk burning the board out?
I am trying to get the maximum battery operation in the smallest space and 3Aa batteries will just fit into the space.
It is best to remove the voltage regulator entirely and then use the 3.3V output as the battery plus input connection. Any voltage between about 2.0 and 5.0V should work, if you started with a 3.3V Pro Mini (with 8 MHz crystal or resonator).
Swipe the regulator off with the tip of a hot solder pencil, which takes just 2-3 seconds.
