is it possable to send serial over audio. like if i were to wire an arduino serial line to to my mic record some data and then play it back would the data be intact? would the arduino be intact? or would that just not work at all. i would try it if i wasn't afraid of frying my arduino.... the reason im asking this is the easyest/cheapest way i can think of getting serial data a few thousand feet without internet is to use a CB radio to send the data and just wire the arduino up to its speaker and mic so if u know a better way and/or if this will work without frying arduino or what i would have to do to keep my arduino from frying.
You need to convert the serial to one of two tones, one tone for high and the other tone for low, and then transmit that.
These sorts of things are called modems and people still use them.
so what would be a good modem to use? idt one of these old PCI modems i have laying around would work...
Its only dumb to someone who is old enough to remember acoustic modems.
A couple of things to remember, acoustic modems are/were very slow. I remember thinking 1200 baud was lightning fast (compared to the previous 110 baud, it was). If you are talking US CB I don't think that data communications are even allowed; so check your local laws.
well im 14 so ya....
and as for the data thing hmm i'll definitely look into it... there goes a second life for dads CB radios lol
