Problem installing zip library

HI

I am trying to install a .zip library on IDE 2.0.0-RC2 ( portable version )

i get an error message...

Error: Request installZip failed with message: 13 INTERNAL: Library install failed: moving extracted archive to destination dir: getting stat info for /tmp/arduino-cli-lib-484157649/Mozzi-master/Mozzi: stat /tmp/arduino-cli-lib-484157649/Mozzi-master/Mozzi: too many levels of symbolic links

The folder is & contents are in my libraries folder but the IDE does not list it as installed

Any help gratefully received

Hi @Jkd_Ardy. Please post a link to where you downloaded the Mozzi library .zip file from.

Most likely the problem is that the library author has created a symlink structure that would cause the IDE to go into an endless loop while recursing one of the library folders. In order to avoid this, the IDE detects when it has passes through an unreasonable number of symlinks and skips processing the library.

Usually the symlinks are only in place to avoid some duplication of files or else to support the formats required by another development framework such as PlatformIO, and so it is an easy fix to resolve the problematic structure. I can provide instructions for that, but I will need to examine the library first.

HI

link to the Library is....

installs fine on IDE 1.8.15 so was a bit baffled....

Here is the culprit:
https://github.com/sensorium/Mozzi/blob/master/Mozzi

It doesn't seem to be a symlink loop, but rather just a broken symlink that serves no apparent purpose. It is very odd.

When I tried it, only part of the library was installed. Probably it got up to the point where it hit the broken symlink and then bailed out. I suspect this is the reason for the "does not list" behavior you observed.

Try this:

  1. Select File > Quit from the Arduino IDE menus.
  2. Delete the Mozzi-master folder from your libraries folder.
  3. Manually extract the downloaded Mozzi-master.zip file to your libraries folder.
  4. Delete the Mozzi symlink you see under the libraries/Mozzi-master folder.
NOTE: this is optional, but it seems best to remove it to avoid any chance of it causing more problems.
  5. Start the Arduino IDE.

You should now see the Mozzi library examples under the File > Examples > Mozzi menu in the Arduino IDE and you should be able to use the library as expected.

Very kind of you to look into this for me ..

May not be able to test your solution for a couple of days due to work but will let you know as soon as I do ....

Will also let the author of the library know in case they get more people with this problem
