PROBLEM interfacing ARDUINO with ALTERA DE2-70 board using RS232

Hi, basically,i am using a PIR sensor on an arduino and i wish to send the output(digitalWrite HIGH for TX pin on arduino) of the PIR to an Altera DE-70 board and light up the on-board LEDS(LEDG & LEDG1) through RS232 (Cytron.io - Simplifying Digital Making). I've found a site on "How to use the RS-232 transmitter and receiver" (fpga4fun.com - Serial interface 5 - How to use the RS-232 transmitter and receiver), but i am still unable to make it work. Inside the side you can see a full coding, and i am currently using that to interface between the two.

PROBLEMS:

  1. my arduino keeps on displaying this problem

Ive tried using basic codings (PIR & LED), and it works, and im sure it is not the COM PORT, since it is PORT 4 on device manager. This only happens after ive attached the arduino to rs232 and to altera board.

  1. since im still learning on the verilog part, can someone please point out anything wrong about the verilog code? i got it here ; fpga4fun.com - Serial interface (RS-232) under "the project code can be found here"... in there instead of using output reg [7:0] GPout, i've replaced it with output reg [1:0] oLEDG, hopefully this can direct the "digitalWrite HIGH from TX arduino to RX input of altera board to the LEDS on board"..other than that, ive changed all the baud rate inside the top module and sub module to 9600 ( to match the baud rate with arduino).. that is about it..

I have attached the full verilog code below..if you are unable to view the images, right click on the icon and open in new tab. Sorry for any inconvenience..PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME ARDUINO GURUS.. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

If you have anything connected to pins 0 or 1 when you try to upload a file, you will get that message. You can not have anything connected to those pins WHILE UPLOADING.

It sounds like you do have something connected to the serial pins.

So what you are saying is, upload first and then connect the PINS afterwards?

Well, you tried the "connect the pins first, then upload" sequence, and that didn't work. So, the "upload, then connect the pins" sequence is certainly worth a look-see.
