Problem mounting Arduino to my robot

Hello, I've begun building a hexapod robot from this kit at sparkfun: Hexapod Chassis Kit - ROB-11497 - SparkFun Electronics. I have it assembled and working now but I dont have any place to mount the battery Im using. I found a solution that might work but Im worried it might cause a short. If I mount the spider controller directly to the bottom of the acrylic chassis, the legs can still move unimpaired and I can fit the battery on top of the robot. I havent tried powering this setup up yet though cause I dont know if there are possible electrical issues if I mount the board so that the solder on the bottom is touching the acrylic.

No problem with that - it's why the board is acrylic, because that stuff is non-conductive. Just make sure you can mount the board to it without any bending. All the little bumps on the bottom should be the same height - then you can mount it flat to that acrylic board. It doesn't have any gyros or vibration sensors so you can "hard mount" it with the screws and I would use rubber washers too.

Here's an example of a board mounted to an airplane drone - do something like this.

Then, you should be able to put the battery on the other side with a velcro loop, like the red one in the photo.

Thanks a bunch! Sure enough when I connected the battery and flipped the power switch the robot came alive and worked without error!
