Problem uploading - new Uno to Windows 10

Hi,

Very new to this world but keen to get involved. I purchased the Starterkit and am trying to upload the "blink" sketch via IDE but am getting a message that there's a problem uploading. I checked the forum and found other users found success by using an earlier version of IDE (initially i used 1.7.10 then 1.6.5) but have the same issue.

The diagnostics keep saying "programmer is not responding" - I'm not sure what this means but when i plug in the USB the green "on" light comes on and the orange L blinks at about 0.5sec on & off

Please help!

Diagnostics below:

Sketch uses 1,030 bytes (3%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32,256 bytes.
Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2,039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes.

Are you sure that you have the correct port selected in the IDE under >Tools >Port ?
COM1 is usually the PC's serial port.

If unsure, check in "Device Manager" under "Ports", to see which port the Arduino is attached to, although usually it will appear in the IDE's port list.

Is it an original Arduino/Genuino UNO, or a clone?

Edit:

initially i used 1.7.10 then 1.6.5

Version 1.7.10 must have been from Arduino.org, not Arduino.cc (The real Arduino.cc downloads aren't up to 1.7.n yet, only 1.6.9.

Arduino.cc is the correct site to download a decent IDE from. If you also got V1.6.5 from Arduino.org, I'd advise you to uninstall it and download V1.6.5 from Arduino.cc, here:- https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
V1.6.9 seems to be OK, but the last proven, fully stable version was V1.6.5, (from the above site, not .org).

And I'm using Win10 - it's fine with the Arduino IDE.

Thanks for the reply, i appreciate your help. It's a genuine UNO- from their official starterpack. I'm downloading the .cc program and give that a go and play around with the ports and fingers crossed that'll get it done.

Now it’s saying the following- basically “cannot find the file specified”… any tips?

Sketch uses 1,066 bytes (3%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32,256 bytes.
Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2,039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes.

Excellent. Glad you got it sorted. Now the fun begins.

If you have a problem, start a thread of your own. Don't hijack someone else's thread, and especially not by simply copying and pasting their opening post.

laurenh's last post describes the fix to that particular problem anyway.

When you start your thread, accurately describe your situation.
