Problem uploading program to board.

I have been using an Arduino Uno sketch for quite some time to control the text shown on a digital sign. I am using an Arduino clone I built using a breakout board for FT 232RL USB to Serial for data input. Suddenly I am getting a “Problem uploading to board” error.

I attached the error information from review. I will, of course, be happy to provide any additional information needed.

I would very much appreciate assistance in resolving this issue.

Thank you,

The "Access is denied" error happens when the port is open in another application. Make sure you don't have any other applications running that might have the port open. If you can't find any, try restarting your computer. Sometimes a glitch causes the port to get stuck open and restarting fixes that.

Make sure COM3 is your FT232RL module. You can find its port like this:

  • Unplug your Arduino board from the computer.
  • Tools > Port
  • Note the ports, if any, listed in the menu.
  • Close the Tools menu.
  • Plug your Arduino board into the computer.
  • Tools > Port - The new port listed in the menu is your Arduino board.

Thank you for the reply.

What you suggest makes sense as I have an idential arduino clone I made using the FT 232RL and I get the same error when I try to upload a sketch.

As you suggested, I checked and COM3 is, in fact, being used.

I am not sure how to determine if the port is open in another application. I restarted the computer and, unfortunately, this did not correct the problem.

What do you suggest at this point?

Thank you and best regards,
