problem with my dc

is there some pins that need to be connected when running off of dc power only? I've been stuck on this last step for a few months now and need my arduino uno to run off of dc power so i can close my machine I've tried 5-12v adapters and nothing works.

please help

If you are talking about using the power jack, all you need to do is plug into the jack.
Center is positive. 7-12volts

You may have damaged the power switching circuit though.

that makes sense because one time smoke did come out of the board
