Hi guys!
I'm a noob so please don't shoot me!
Basically I purchased a Nano (clone) recently, and it seems to work fine when simply plugged into the USB port (played with the Blink sketch, uploaded without problems etc). I then soldered some header pins to it so that I could place it on a breadboard. My problem is, is when it is in the breadboard and I plug in the USB cable my PC reports it as an un-recognised device, and whilst there is power to the Nano (the LED is blinking as per the last sketch uploaded), the PC does not give it a COM port so I cannot do anything with it.
I assumed I had destroyed it in some way, as removing it from the breadboard and just have it dangling from the USB cable (the way it worked previously), the PC still reported it as un-recognised. On the off chance, I then plugged it into a different USB port, where it was then recognised, installed the drivers etc, and all was good again. I then plugged it back into the original USB port, but again it was reported as un-recognised.
To add more to this confusion(!), I then plugged it back into the second USB port where it was working (all good), un-installed the drivers etc, plugged it back in to the original USB port, and it then installed the drivers etc, and all was good again!!!
So thinking this may have just been a glitch, I put it back on the breadboard. Unfortunately, it was then reported as un-recognised again. I repeated my above actions and got it working again!
My question therefore is, as anyone else experienced this behaviour? Could I have created some sort of short with my soldering that is only manifesting itself when plugged into a breadboard?
Any tips on where to go from here to fix this would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Neil
