Problems with 3 pin IR Detector

Hi,

I have a IR detector as per the picture below, I have installed the IR library and hook it up like this :-

IR facing front :- pin 1 - Pin 11 on Arduino ( orange ) pin 2 - Gnd ( white ) pin 3 - 220R --- 5V ( red )

When I uploaded the IRRecvDemo example, nothing came out of the serial output.

I tried all combinations, still the same results...

Another thing I notice is that if I do NOT put a resistors ( 220R) between the 5V to the pin 3, in my case, the whole IR detector unit becomes very very HOT (short circuit, I guess)..

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue ?

Thank you

Thanks for the reply..

I finally manage to do trial and error and found out the pin 1 is for data, pin 2 is +5V and pin 3 is GND..

Got it from a local electronic component shop, just buy the parts.. does not comes with any datasheet or anything...

You should probably start by replacing the IR detector with a new one ....
