Problems with getting IDE to run without using bundled java

Hi, I've been tearing my hair out with trying to get the IDE to run without using the bundled version of java. :0 :( :~

I already have the latest JDK/JRE (v1.7.0_45) installed and I don't see the point in having yet another copy taking up space, when the whole point of java is that you don't need umpteen copies of it floating around on your system. :0 :~

My JAVA_HOME="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_45\" and this works fine with all the other java based stuff I'm using, so why won't the Arduino IDE run?!? :0 :( :~

I've searched the entire forum, the documentation and googled, bing'd and nowhere does anyone describe how the heck you are supposed to get this thing going without resorting to the bundled java. Can someone please help out before I tear out any more hair!?! :disappointed_relieved: =(

Thanks.
