Problems with ST7796S library on MEGA2560

Im trying to connect my 4.0'' TFT SPI 480x320 v1.0 display to mega (Ive used lvl shifters for needed pins) but when I try to upload code it gives following error:
C:\Users---------\Documents\Arduino\libraries\Adafruit_GFX_Library/Adafruit_SPITFT.h:252:23: error: no members matching 'Adafruit_GFX::drawRGBBitmap' in 'class Adafruit_GFX'
using Adafruit_GFX::drawRGBBitmap; // Check base class first

I have installed latestr version of Adafruit_GFX library and downloaded Adafruit_ST7796S_kbv from Davids github. The code Im using is example code for graphic test from that library:

Please run the example(s) from the Adafruit_ST7796S_kbv GitHub.

Most importantly. Please report the Adafruit_GFX library version.

The simplest way is : enable verbose compilation in File->Preferences. Copy-paste the "used library" lines.

These show which library and where it resides on your PC.

David.

Yes, Adafruit_ST7796S_kbv is not working correctly with the current Adafruit_GFX, Adafruit_SPITFT for the spitftbitmap example

I am not sure why.

drawRGBBitmap() seems to work ok.

drawRGBBitmap() is an overloaded Adafruit_GFX method with four different signatures:

  void drawRGBBitmap(int16_t x, int16_t y, const uint16_t bitmap[], int16_t w,
                     int16_t h);
  void drawRGBBitmap(int16_t x, int16_t y, uint16_t *bitmap, int16_t w,
                     int16_t h);
  void drawRGBBitmap(int16_t x, int16_t y, const uint16_t bitmap[],
                     const uint8_t mask[], int16_t w, int16_t h);
  void drawRGBBitmap(int16_t x, int16_t y, uint16_t *bitmap, uint8_t *mask,
                     int16_t w, int16_t h);

Adafruit_ILI9341, Adafruit_ST7735, ... all inherit from Adafruit_SPITFT.
Adafruit_SPITFT replaces one of these methods with a hardware version of the SRAM method:

  using Adafruit_GFX::drawRGBBitmap; // Check base class first
  void drawRGBBitmap(int16_t x, int16_t y, uint16_t *pcolors, int16_t w,
                     int16_t h);

This means that the SRAM version works fast but the other 3 versions rely on the original Adafruit_GFX implementaions. i.e. plot individual pixels which is very slow.

David.

Hi David, I finally decided to ask this maybe silly question: what does kbv stand for?

Google found knowledge-based view, and some abbreviations for German names.
But I assume it means something different. Maybe bv for board version, k for connected?

Thanks

Jean-Marc

Added:

My confusion has been resolved. The library Adafruit_ST7796S_kbv is from David.
_kbv is the appendix David uses. The only exception seem to be some library from LCDWIKI.
I got a personal message form David with hints for the origin of the kbv abbreviation. Thanks.

I am using Adafruit GFX v1.10.10 (checked it in library manager, should be newest version).
I have managed to upload graphictest code from your library Adafruit_ST7796S but it just gives me blank white screen.

I am using Arduino MEGA to as microcontroller and logic level shifter hw221 and external power supply for lcd screen, my connections are as follows:
5V mega -> Vb of level shifter
3.3V mega -> Va of lvl shifter
GND mega -> GND power supply for common ground
Vcc LCD -> V+ power supply (5V)
Gnd LCD -> V- power supply (GND)
8 mega -> B2 logic shifter A2 -> RESET of LCD
9 mega -> B3 logic shifter A3 -> DC of LCD
10 mega -> B1 logic shifter A1 -> CS of LCD
50 mega -> B6 logic shifter A6 -> MISO of LCD
51 mega -> B4 logic shifter A4 -> MOSI of LCD
52 mega -> B5 logic shifter A5 -> SCK of LCD
OE shifter -> 3.3V for HIGH logic level

Thanks for your wiring description.

I built graphicstest.ino from the examples:

Using library SPI at version 1.0 in folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino-1.8.13\hardware\arduino\avr\libraries\SPI
Using library Adafruit_GFX_Library at version 1.10.10 in folder: C:\Users\David Prentice\Documents\Arduino\libraries\Adafruit_GFX_Library
Using library Adafruit_ST7796S_kbv at version 1.0.0 in folder: C:\Users\David Prentice\Documents\Arduino\libraries\Adafruit_ST7796S_kbv
Using library Adafruit_BusIO at version 1.7.3 in folder: C:\Users\David Prentice\Documents\Arduino\libraries\Adafruit_BusIO
Using library Wire at version 1.0 in folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino-1.8.13\hardware\arduino\avr\libraries\Wire

Sketch uses 20852 bytes (8%) of program storage space. Maximum is 253952 bytes.
Global variables use 726 bytes (8%) of dynamic memory, leaving 7466 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 8192 bytes.

It builds and runs on my Red ST7796S SPI display. I use 74HC4050 level shifters on 9, 10, 50, 52, (4, 6) and resistor divider for 8. (4, 6 are /SD_CS and /T_CS)

So the "register reads" are not quite correct.
spitftlcd.ino compiles but does not display properly.

I can display monochrome bitmaps, BMP, JPG images on this display but need to solve the spitftlcd.ino problem.

I will add some other examples in the next day (or two).

David.
