Program a mega 2560 using a ft232

Hi, Sorry if my question sounds like a noob but this has officially exhausted my brain
so I am using a mega 2560 board and was trying to upload the sketches using an ft232 board
these are the connections

ft232 mega 2560
GND GND
VCC 5V
RX TX
TX RX
DTR RESET( USING A 0.1uf capacitor between them)

on uploading the code the following error is shown

**Arduino: 1.8.13 (Windows 10), Board: "Arduino Uno"**

**Sketch uses 924 bytes (2%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32256 bytes.**

**Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2048 bytes.**

I am a beginner in this field and was trying to do something new . I would appreciate the help very much

Uno ??

sorry i pasted the uno error by mistake
while using the 2560 the error was also the same programmer not responding

Does your 2560 not already have an on-board USB-serial interface? If it does, then it will likely be connected to the same Tx & Rx pins. Your FT232 could be fighting with this on-board interface for control of the Tx & Rx lines.

Actually I was using this board fir prototyping fir a pcb where I will be uploading the code directly on the 2560 controller
Maybe what you are saying is right i will see to it and reply again.
Thank you for your help

Does your ATmega2560 chip have the Arduino MEGA bootloader installed? You can't use Serial for uploading without the bootloader.

Yeah I installed the bootloader on chip anyway I got a standalone chip and tried doing it on it and it worked so I guess the work is done

Thank you for your advice😁
