programmer not responding reset the board before..

HI all,
Im having problems uploading a program to my recently arrived arduino NG - bought from sparkfun.com. I get "programmer not responding; reset the board before exporting" error.

The drivers were installed ok on windows xp, the board receives energy and orange led lights up intermitently. Power jumper set to usb. I have tried:

  • hitting reset, and uploading right away (before the orange led starts blinking)
  • hitting reset, waiting a couple of seconds, and clicking upload (before the orange led starts blinking)
  • pressing reset, click upload -reset still pressed-, and let go reset a couple of seconds after that (before the orange led starts blinking)

Nothing seems to happen - no tx or rx led blinking - and then i get the error. The same problem described here:

http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1163996049/0#0

I have tried in two different windows xp installations without success.

Ive been reading several (LOTS) of threads that deal with the same problem, but cant seem to get a clear idea about how to solve this. Most of them point regarding the timing between reset and upload.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

hardware: hp nx6120 laptop. 1.6ghz centrino, 768mb ram, windows xp sp2.

Just in case this helps someone, I solved this problem. I first hit "upload" button in arduino GUI, and like a second or two after that I hit reset in the arduino board, now everything's working as expected! So it seems timing is really, really critical for the upload process to work at all.

Best regards,
nico.
