Programming atmega8 with ftdi basic breakout board

Hello, do you know if it is possible to program an atmega8 using the ftdi basic breakout board ?

Thank you

If the ATmega8 has the Arduino bootloader on it you should be able to upload sketches to it using the FTDI chip.

Very nice. And if the chip is blank then I have to burn the bootloader by using my uno as programmer ? Or the atmega8 can’t be programmed ?

Yes.

Can also use the FTDI chip to burn a bootloader. Little more complicated: http://www.geocities.jp/arduino_diecimila/bootloader/index_en.html I still have a duemilanove with pins installed next to the FTDI chip that I used to use. Eventually got tired of the wait and just got an AVR ISP instead.

Indeed it seems quite a lot of work to be done. Probably I will try another way by utilizing my uno and burn a bootloader for an old atmega8 arduino.
Thank you sir for honoring my question
