Try one thing. In boards.txt change for Wemos the lines
d1_mini.serial.disableDTR=true
d1_mini.serial.disableRTS=true
to false. It will reset the Mega before upload over it to Wemos
done but same, it reset but not uploading, little early the led flashed than the time when sketch upload when i reset mega manually,
i could see esp reset randomly without uploading sketch also

the reset pin on Wemos worked for me without issues from 5 V board only over a level converter.
