Project 10 of arduino starter kit. DC motor doesn't run.

I'm trying to replace the 10th project of arduino starter kit, where you can control the speed and the direction of the dc motor. I prepared the components on the breadboard and I wrote the code as the manual says but when I go to turn on the first switch the engine does not move. Also when i try to turn on the second switch it doesn't move.
Someone can help me?
