Hi,
Our local Junior AFL club (apologies to those outside Australia who need to google that) is looking to replace a scoreboard that needs maintenance. They'd like the new one to be digital. I think we could produce and publish an open source design that other sporting codes could use.
The key drivers are:
- free and open source design that can be enhanced by the community that uses it
- parts that are easy to access, assemble and maintain
- something lower cost than commercial alternatives, so community clubs can raise the funds
- something that uses modular parts, so it's easy to maintain should bad weather, vandalism, component failures or a flying cricket ball strike.
As I have an existing LED signage project comprising Freetronics DMD modules (link to product page), and these are easy to source in Australia I've gravitated to using those again. I've posted more details in this freetronics.com forum post.
Please reply to the post linked above, or here, or PM me if you can assist or have an interest in the project for your own club.
Thanks
Geoff
