Proposal: Require >=TL2 to post in "Tutorials" category

Is it feasible, and if feasible is it desirable, to lock the Tutorials section to everyone at TL0 and TL1, and thus remove one place that noobs use to post questions inappropriately?

There might be other categories where this could apply, but I can't think of any at the moment.

And in anticipation of the question: "what if someone new has this really good tutorial they want to post?"
I answer with: "they do what I did when I came here wanting to post a tutorial about Nextion HMI, they ask the moderators for help".

Curious: what so TL0 and TL1 equate to?

trust level I guess

Yes, but we don't see "tl0" we see "noob" (?)

Trust level 0, the noobiest noob possible, Trust level 1, which can be achieved like this:

To post images etc you need trust level 1, you can get there by:

  • Entering at least 5 topics
  • Reading at least 30 posts
  • Spend a total of 10 minutes reading posts

Users at trust level 1 can…

  • Use all core Discourse functions; all new user restrictions are removed
  • Send PMs
  • Upload images and attachments

@pert if this is too much off topic I won't object to you deleting it.

Yes. "See", "Reply", and "Create" permissions can be set per-user group for each category.

This was also previously proposed here:

I don't think it should be deleted, but I did split it to a dedicated topic.

Definitely applies to tutorials in all languages categories. Would be a win.

I have now made a formal proposal for this change:

Feedback on the proposal is welcome. You can use the formal pull request review system or a comment here.

The "+ New Topic" button will be disabled for users with trust level 0 or 1

I verified that users with trust level 0 or 1 whose tutorial is accepted will still be able to make edits to their posts after the topic is moved to #using-arduino:introductory-tutorials by a moderator.

I'm happy to make the same configuration changes to curated subcategories in the non-English categories if the community wants it. As usual, I would recommend making a dedicated topic in the non-English category for the proposal to make sure the interested parties have the opportunity to discuss it.

Thanks Pert, but ...

... in the past I had created a "tutorials" section in the Italian language section (with the old forum this was possible even to a moderator), but ... user participation and interest was nil  so ... after some several months, I decided to remove the empty, useless section, so ... I would say that it is fine in the International area, but for the language I follow (Italian), there is no need (at the moment).

@pert ,

I have reviewed and approved.

As I don't properly understand how github works it might be the case that I've missed something, if so please tell me. I'm also not sure if I've reviewed the same thing multiple times or reviewed several different parts of the thing.

Thanks,

The tutorial section in the French subforum does work

The proposed change has now been implemented.

Thanks for your excellent suggestion @PerryBebbington and to all the other participants in the discussion.

Can I ask if we could get the same for the French tutorial section?

I'm happy to do it. Has there been a discussion about it under the FranƧais category?

Please provide the French language equivalent of the title and text of this post:

You are welcome to adjust the procedure according to the preferences of the FranƧais subcommunity. Trust level 3/4 users will also be able to move topics into Tutoriels et cours so the flagging approach is not the only possible method of doing this.

I’ll raise it there but I feel everyone will agree. Let me come back to you.
